Running events are everywhere these days, but every now and then, one comes along with a reason to run that goes beyond medals and personal bests.
I recently attended the press conference for Keep Going Cebu City: Run for a Cause, happening on November 15, 2026 at Plaza Independencia. What caught my attention was how the event puts a more personal meaning behind every kilometre.

The idea is simple: run for what you stand for.
Each runner gets an advocacy bib where they can write the cause they’re running for. It could be recovery, mental health, family, a personal struggle, or simply something they believe deserves a little more attention. For me, that small detail makes this feel different from the usual fun run.
The Cebu City leg is part of Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week and will feature 1K, 3K, 5K and 10K categories, plus a virtual option. Organizers are targeting around 2,500 participants, with proceeds supporting the construction of a Special Drug Education Center.

Run ambassador Jid Durano also shared his own story of recovery during the campaign, giving the advocacy a very human face. Beyond the race itself, there will be activities centred on prevention and recovery, plus a foam party and live performances after the run.

I like the thought behind this one. You can show up because you love running, but you can also show up carrying a reason that means something to you.
Sometimes, crossing the finish line isn’t really the point. It’s having something worth running for.
